....but in the way ,the evening most intriguing dances were two pas de deux from Vasily Medvedev's new ballet version " Eugene Onegin".
They have a thoroughly modern looseness,freedom and organic flow.
Yet the ballet is unabashedly romantic - absolutely untouched by irony ,deconstruction or any other contemporary theme.
It's as if past and present have met and fused an alternate future...

...the cultural and literary legacy of Alexander Pushkin was celebrated with two scenes from his writings ,the novel "Eugene Onegin" ...choreographed by Vasily Medvedev...was set in a garden where a Byronic and pretentious intelectual Onegin teases and rejects a love - struck young Tatiana.Medvedev danced the role of Onegin himself ,lifting Natalia Baskirtseva,Tatiana,in some beautiful backward leaps,reminiscent of similar moves in Twila Tharp's "A Baker's Dozen"....

...one of the most remarkeble events of the last months was the premiere of "Onegin" ,a ballet staged by outstanding choreographer from St.Petersburg Vasily Medvedev at The National Theatre in Prague in Czech republic.....
.....a doubtless advantage of the Prague production and basic difference from the only attempt to carry out a similar project,undertaken in 1965 by the English choreographer John Cranko with the Stuttgart ballet,is that the performance is about Eugene and Tatyana ,as it is in Pushkin's,rather than about Tatyana and Eugene,as in the opera and in Cranko's version..Medvedev succeeded not only in plasticallydepicting the figurative world of the heroes of "Onegin", but also in creating a really modern ballet on the basis of classical literature...
..one of the most emotional and original dramatic scenes is the scene of the duel,to be precise -the setting of the duel......it is not surprising that tears appear in the eyes of some spectators.one must agree that one doesn't often see such things during a ballet performance....

..the audince was also treated to two excerpts from the ballet "Eugen Onegin",based on the poetic master piece of he same name by A.Pushkin.Vasily Medvedev,the company the company's young ballet master,choreographed the ballet ,which premiered in Prague in 1999.
...the ballet would be worth seeing in it's two-act entirety....
